How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on Review Cookery starts with one question: will this product fit the way you cook? For an air fryer or other kitchen appliance, that means what you make, how many people you feed, the space you have and how much cleanup you want.

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with the meal and the kitchen

A large air fryer can be hard to store in a small kitchen. A compact model may not fit the amount of food you want to cook at once.

We check capacity, dimensions, footprint, cooking functions and what kinds of meals the product suits. For accessories, we look at whether the size and materials fit the appliance and the job.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the details the maker lists: temperature range, controls, presets, power, included parts and care instructions. For pressure cookers, slow cookers, rice cookers, indoor grills, dehydrators and vacuum sealers, we compare the features that affect capacity, timing, storage and cleanup.

Makers describe their products in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note warranty terms and any limits the maker lists.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after using a product. We look for patterns, like uneven cooking, hard-to-clean surfaces, confusing controls, worn coatings or bags and parts that do not fit as expected.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. An appliance that suits family meals may score lower in a guide for a small kitchen or occasional use.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Makers sell close models under similar names, so we check each model name and what comes in the box, and we only link new units.

We skip products with unclear specifications, no reliable maker information or a known recall. When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not hands-on tests. We don't claim to have used every product we cover.

Cooking times and results can vary by appliance and food size. Follow the maker's instructions and check that food is safely cooked before serving.
