Do you have to make a vegetable-heavy dish like a stir fry or a vegetable casserole? If so, you don’t want to have to spend hours cutting up vegetables into perfect shapes.
That is time that you could no doubt spend a lot better and a lot more productively. But, to skip cutting vegetables, you need a dedicated vegetable chopper.
There are plenty of junk vegetable choppers out there, so which one should you buy? In this article, we are going to search for the best vegetable chopper out there. We will review five different vegetable choppers and let you make your own decision. If you want our recommendation, we would say to go for the Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper.
A Spotlight On Some of The Best Vegetable Chopper 2020:
Best Vegetable Chopper Reviews:
Ninja Food Chopper Express Chop
Given that one of the main reasons to invest in a vegetable chopper is to save time and reduce the amount of effort needed to prepare a dish, we figured that the best way to start off our best vegetable chopper list was by taking a look at the Ninja Food Chopper Express Chop.
This is the first motorized chopper that we are going to be reviewing on this list and it is a very good one. There really is no other way to put it, if you want a chopper that is going to save you a ton of time in the kitchen, then you can’t go wrong with the Ninja Food.
For starters, this is a very easy chopper to use. Even without us saying anything, you could probably easily figure out how this works just based on the design of it. You simply take whatever it is that you want chopped, put it in the power pod, and turn on the express chop.
With over 200 watts of cutting power, the Ninja Food Chopper Express Chop is easily able to cut through any sort of vegetable that you want to throw in it (you can also throw in other things like nuts, fruit, or anything else that you might want cut up).
One thing that does really endear us to the Ninja Food is how it can just about any job that you want it to do. A lot of vegetable choppers, especially manual ones, only cut in one specific pattern or size. That is not the case with this chopper.
You can do chopping, grinding, mincing, or blending with the appliance. This drastically increases the number of dishes that you can make with the Ninja Food. For example, want to make a stir fry? Just use the chopping feature. Want to make a salsa? Then you can use both the chopping and grinding features. It is a very versatile tool and we imagine that you will end up using this a lot.
If we had to bring up a single issue with the Ninja Food Chopper Express Chop, we would probably mention the fact that this chopper does have an issue where things like seeds, skins, and other pieces of vegetable will get stuck in some of the crevices of the motor. This can make cleaning out the chopper a bit harder than it needs to be.
- Can do a wide variety of jobs, including grinding, cutting, blending, and chopping.
- Very versatile; can be used to make a bunch of different dishes.
- Requires very little effort to use.
- Moderately priced, especially given the quality of it.
- Food getting stuck in the motor can be very annoying.
Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper
Moving on with our review list, we are going to be looking at something that is quite different than the Ninja Food Chopper. Whereas the Ninja was a motorized food chopper, the Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper is the first manual food chopper that we are going to be reviewing for this list.
These are both a fairly common kitchen tool and a common kind of food chopper, so this certainly isn’t going to be the last of this kind to appear on our best vegetable chopper list. However, the Mueller is definitely one of the more well-made manual choppers on the market and you should definitely give it some strong consideration.
So, given that this is the first manual chopper on this list, you may be curious as to how it works. It is quite simple actually. You just take one of the two dicers and attach it to the machine (each dicer is a different size). Then you just put the vegetable on the machine and close the dicer on top of it. This will reliably cut your vegetables in uniform pieces. The pieces either go onto a plate or into one of the storage containers that comes with the chopper.
Each dicer is extremely well-made with sharp steel blades that cut through just about any kind of vegetable with ease. It doesn’t matter how hard the skin is or whether the vegetable has seeds, the dicer will slice right through it with next to no effort on your part.
So, while this is a “manual” chopper, you aren’t going to have to put much, if any, muscle into it. Even though most people would use the Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper for harder vegetables like onions, potatoes, etc., you don’t need to worry about using this on soft vegetables or other food items either.
Things like tomatoes, various kinds of fruit, and soft cheese can all be cut into uniform pieces with this chopper.
Before moving on we want to talk a bit more about the dicers that are included with the Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper. Even though you will only be spending around $20-25 on this product, you will be getting a really amazing product.
The dicers are made from ultra-sharp German steel that doesn’t rust, corrode, or seemingly dull. It is definitely very impressive and a big part of the reason why the product deserves to be on our best vegetable chopper list.
- Dicers made from extremely sharp, German steel.
- Can cut through hard or soft items with ease.
- Two different sized dicers add some variety.
- Can easily cut vegetables into storage containers for easier use.
- Cleaning in between the dicers can be a bit of a hassle.
Sedhoom 23 in 1 Vegetable Chopper
For this next review, we want to look at a fairly unique vegetable chopper in the form of the Sedhoom 23 in 1 Vegetable Chopper. What is it that makes this particular vegetable chopper unique? Well, as you can see from the product name, this chopper claims to be able to do the job of 23 different cutting tools.
While we can’t say that this is the case for sure, one thing is clear, which is that the Sedhoom is definitely a very versatile kitchen tool that deserves to be mentioned on this list.
We obviously have to start this review by talking about the Sedhoom’s main claim to fame, which is the many different attachments that this chopper comes with. Think back to the last manual chopper that we reviewed (the Mueller), that came with 2 different dicer attachments.
The Sedhoom comes with a whopping 12 different dicer attachments. Each of the different attachments either has a completely unique function or it produces a different sized final product. For example, one attachment may be sued to cut thin slices of a vegetable, like cucumber. Another attachment may be used to shred vegetables like carrots. There are multiple dicer attachments designed to produce different sized cubes or slices.
You probably don’t need to be told that the main benefit of all these different attachments is that they give the Sedhoom 23 in 1 Vegetable Chopper some great versatility in the kitchen. You can use the chopper for making basically any kind of dish that you can think of.
You can shred vegetables, chop vegetables, or do just about anything else. Even if you aren’t cooking, the slicing attachment can be useful for making great snack platters. Just based on the versatility of the tool alone, the Sedhoom 23 in 1 Vegetable Chopper deserves a spot on this list. Never mind the fact that the quality of each attachment is also extremely high.
Like many other choppers, you are given the option of chopping the vegetables directly onto a plate or pan, or into one of the included containers for storage. It isn’t a huge feature by any means, but it is nice and convenient.
- A large variety of attachments to make use of.
- Can cut vegetables directly onto plate or into container.
- Extremely versatile kitchen tool.
- High-quality cutting attachments.
- Lots of pieces that can get easily lost.
Geedel Food Chopper
No doubt many of you have seen slap choppers or products like it before. Even though they may not be for everyone, these can be helpful little tools in the kitchen and so we felt that we had to include at least one of that kind of chopper on our best vegetable chopper list.
The Geedel Food Chopper is a fairly standard vegetable chopper that will be very familiar to many of you.
If you somehow aren’t familiar with this style of food chopper, the way that it works is quite simple. The blades are encased in a small plastic case. You put whatever vegetables you want chopped under the case and gently tap the top of the chopper.
Even a gentle tap sends the blades rocketing downwards, which chops the vegetables. While this is technically a manual chopper, it requires no real power to use. Even chopping really hard, thick vegetables doesn’t require any effort on your part.
The blades are very well-made. You wouldn’t assume that they would be all that sharp or high-quality because of the price of the chopper, but they are. The blades are made of extremely high-end steel and they remain extremely sharp.
As we mentioned earlier in the review, they also have quite a bit of cutting power. Obviously, you will use this mostly for vegetables, but you could easily use the Geedel Food Chopper with nuts, fruit, eggs, and other food items as well.
One benefit of the Geedel Food Chopper and other choppers of this style is how easy they make it to keep everything you cut all-together. Because everything is being cut within the confines of the small plastic case, you can easily mix together salsa or other dishes entirely within the case. Then you just have to dump everything into a bowl or onto a plate.
Cleaning this style of chopper is also a lot easier because you can take the whole tool apart quite easily, which makes running each component under water very simple.
- Very easy to clean.
- Chops very easily.
- Great for mixing up fresh veggie dishes.
- Easy to find space for in a cupboard.
- Not as precise as we would like.
Fullstar Vegetable Chopper
For the final review, we are going to be going back to reviewing the standard sort of manual chopper that you have seen before on our best vegetable chopper list. The Fullstar Vegetable Chopper is a vegetable chopper that is very similar in design and function to the Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper and the Sedhoom 23 in 1 Vegetable Chopper.
So, to some extent, you already have a good idea of what to expect going into this review. We will say, however, that the Fullstar does have some unique features going for it that do make it worthy of being on this list.
What is unique about the Fullstar is how it acts as a sort of combination of a traditional vegetable chopper and something called a mandolin, which is a tool that many of you are probably familiar with, but that we haven’t shown on the list. It comes with a number of attachments, including various dicers (the same kind that you have seen on other choppers) and attachments for the mandolin.
The dual functions of the Fullstar help to make it a whole lot more versatile. If you want cubed or finely chopped vegetables for your dish, you can use the dicer attachment. If you want long, thin slices for something like a salad, then you can use the mandolin. All-together there are 2 dicer attachments and 5 for the mandolin, so there is a lot of variety. The attachments can also be used to do some non-veggie related jobs like grating cheese.
As you might expect from a chopper that is being reviewed on our best vegetable chopper list, the blade quality is extremely high. The blades are made of sharp steel and cut very easily. In fact, the blades are so extremely sharp that when you are using the mandolin attachment, you actually need to wear a heavy-duty safety glove (which is included with the chopper).
- Functions as both a vegetable chopper and a mandolin.
- Comes with lots of different attachments.
- High-quality steel blades.
- Extremely sharp, efficient blades that cut easily.
- The most expensive chopper on this list.
- Have to wear safety glove when using the mandolin.
Do You Really Need A Vegetable Chopper?
Something that we want to quickly address in this second part of our best vegetable chopper article is why you should bother investing in one of these at all. After all, you already own knives and do you really need another kitchen tool that you are going to use once and forget about?
Despite seeming like a gimmick novelty tool, a vegetable chopper can actually be a remarkable, useful time-saving tool. There are quite a number of advantages to using a vegetable chopper that we are going to go over.
Easily the biggest advantage associated with vegetable choppers is the fact that they save you a bunch of time in the kitchen. Chopping vegetables with a knife is time-consuming, even for professionals.
This is why most recipes will tell you to pre-chop vegetables, since doing it in the middle of cooking will take too much time. By getting a vegetable chopper, you are ensuring that you spend less time in the kitchen and more time with your family and friends.
Another big, but less obvious advantage of getting a vegetable chopper is the fact that it will lead to more uniform vegetable pieces. Nothing is worse than making a salad or salsa and seeing some people get big huge chunks of vegetable and others get small pieces. By using a vegetable chopper, you can ensure that everyone gets roughly the same sized pieces in their dish.
Finally, a vegetable chopper isn’t the unitasker that you might assume based on the name. As you saw from our best vegetable chopper review list, these are multipurpose kitchen tools that can be used for chopping, grinding, or mincing all sorts of different food items.
